Yoga

I fell in love with yoga in a Hatha yoga studio over 20 years ago. Relaxing, connecting with my body and breath was new and exciting. No one would have described me as “zen”. I remember that first experience so clearly. The silence. I was so uncomfortable with my own thoughts. Then the teacher began speaking.

I felt like she was talking directly to me.

I never forgot that feeling.  Even though it took me a while to get back to my mat, that feeling of connectedness, of something more, of silence, stayed with me.

Yoga has led me to greater inner and outer strength. I practice letting go of being attached to outcomes (seriously a daily practice), and has changed my awareness of my body. Yoga helped me finally find that inner “zen” that I craved.

If you don’t know where to start, grab a mat.

Teaching Yoga

Becoming a yoga teacher has been an amazing experience. I knew in my heart I wanted to teach yoga for a long time. It took me a while convince my mind that I could. Over time I have slowly adopted yoga not only as a practice on my mat, yoga is becoming a practice in my life. It is truly an honour to share.

I have many great opportunities to expand my skill set and learn more about teaching yoga. In addition to being a Registered Yoga Teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach a full range of styles of yoga including, Yin Yang, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Aroma Flow, Aroma Restorative, Restorative, Kids, and Teen Yoga.

I am a certified in Healing Heroes Yoga – Trauma Sensitive training and have incorporated a lot of what I learned in all my classes. I have had the amazing opportunity to teach a group of Veterans at the Canada Games Centre, as well.

I have also had the opportunity to work in the Outreach program at Halifax Yoga, bringing yoga classes to a variety of groups within the community. I have taught yoga to kids participating in the Boys & Girls Club, as well as teens in treatment at the IWK. Being in service as been an amazing experience, and I continue to seek opportunities to do so.

If you are interested in yoga and perhaps are not ready for a studio setting please do not hesitate to  contact me. We can discuss options and find the right fit of yoga for you.

It wasn’t love at first class with Yin Yoga for me. I found it extremely challenging to hold poses for the length of time needed for Yin to be effective. I continued to practice Yin and eventually grew to love the practice.

In November 2018, I had the opportunity to become certified in Yin Yoga training with Amanda Madhu. With the knowledge gained from the training, my love of Yin Yoga deepened.

I maintain an ongoing personal yin practice & leap at opportunities to teach Yin.

Coming Autumn 2022 to the Canada Games Centre!!

I have the great honour to serve moms & babies, teaching yoga creating space for moms to have time to take care of themselves while spending time with their babies. If you are a new mom and looking for a wonderful, safe space to bring baby and move your body, please check out my class at HalifaxYoga.com. I have had the opportunity to teach both prenatal and postnatal yoga.

I have taught a Parent & Baby Cycle at Halifax Yoga class. This class is designed to give parents the space they need to introduce low-impact cardio back into their routines after having a baby.

I am a certified Kids Yoga Teacher. I totally enjoy working with children & youth, introducing them to yoga & meditation.

I host an ongoing “Parents Night Out” at Halifax Yoga. A two hour Kid’s only Yoga Party! We practice poses, share ideas, dance, tell stories, meditate.

I enjoy working with young athletes, encouraging them to cross-train with Yoga. Swimmers, hockey players, & athletes from all disciplines can greatly benefit by including yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.

I have taught Youth & Kids Fit Yoga at the Canada Games Centre.
